Florals for an elegant black and white wedding

Flatlay of bridal accessories for wedding, with bride's jewelry, shoes, bouquet and camera

When Seranna approached us to design florals for her wedding, I was touched. I’ve known Seranna for years,

so this one feels a little more special and personal.

She grew up here in Jasper, and actually babysat my kids when they were young. Seeing Seranna now all grown up herself and ready to get married is so sweet, and of course I was honoured to be a part of it.

S & her (now husband) James chose an October wedding date, and the day itself couldn’t have been lovelier for an autumn wedding at the iconic Jasper Park Lodge, with mild temperatures and the lively fall colours just popping! Husband and wife duo, Juan and Angie, captured every moment so beautifully.

Black and white wedding colours can sometimes feel plain and drab, however S&J’s wedding was anything but! It was instead very elegant and timeless, and allowed the natural beauty of their surroundings to stand out.

For their florals, we kept it clean with mostly whites and greens, but here’s a tip for wedding flowers with limited colour palettes:

I always incorporate texture into floral design whenever possible,

which keeps the floral elements interesting rather than overly simple! An assortment of different blooms from roses, to ranunculus and carnations supply a range of textures alongside several foliages that include oregonia, parvifolia and silver dollar eucalyptus. Snowberry adds even more texture with their white buds, while smoke bush provides those deep, dark, almost black tones.

S&J opted for a small meadow during their ceremony that was easy to move for the reception to elevate the look of their Head Table. I keep saying it — repurposing floral elements is one of the best ways to save money on your wedding decor, without sacrificing your aesthetic.

The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge has no shortage of pretty spots for photos, whether it’s lakeside, among the pines, or inside the hotel, like these beautiful moments in the hotel’s lobby bar, The Emerald Lounge.

Paddling a canoe on Lac Beauvert is a classic JPL experience, and rewards you with stunning photos.

The glistening waters of the emerald-green lake are sigh-inducing, and with the Canadian Rocky Mountains in the background, it’s just iconic.

Some of our absolute favourite moments of S&J are with this gorgeous little

These images couldn’t be more romantic and adorable.

Another tip for black & white weddings? It’s the perfect opportunity to incorporate colourful elements elsewhere.

Between their newlywed ride and the autumn leaves in their couples’ portraits, I’d say S&J definitely got the memo!
